A simple door entry system can often provide an effective alternative to a manned reception. Visitors press a call button and can identify themselves by phone and/or video camera. If the visitor is approved, the door is opened by remote control.
More advanced PC based access systems can use a combination of coded keypads, card swipes and biometric fingerprint readers to control who can go where. The system can also record all personnel entering and leaving sensitive areas for security monitoring.
